Motorbike Leathers – advice from Russia

One of my friends from Russia, whom I met at one of the European motorbike festivals in Berlin in 2004, told me about his first experience of purchasing motorbike leathers at a reasonable price. Frankly speaking, he even said, what kinds of leathers he used in order to protect himself. That’s just the story, originally written by him and then translated by myself in English. Don’t be excited by prices of equipment given below, because in Russia they are somehow different. So, enjoy the special Russian view on motorbike leathers.

“To my mind motorbike leathers are not only a stylish thing that helps you to stand out of the crowd. The main function of the leathers is, of course, protecting a biker’s body in case of an accident. So, you need to choose motorbike leathers very carefully. Having done that, you’ll get aware from different problems, which are met by big number of people, riding bikes.

And really, nowadays you have a great possibility of getting high-quality motorbike leathers at a reasonable price. For example, let’s have a look, what I’m having at the moment.

Helmet – IXS HX 244 – about 160 $. A good helmet at not a big price. It meets all the European standards of safety, presence of ventilation, excellent glass during a rain does not collect drops. Nice thing, I’d like to say.

Jacket – IXS Rexton – 150 $. Another high-quality element of motorbike leathers at a pretty nice price. One very important point there – the protection of the back had been thrown out (it’s not a protection at all) and in addition more serious one Pro Back R was bought for 27 $ and installed, which hadn’t taken much time and effort. That’s an excellent summer variant, but in spring and autumn you need some additional things not to feel cold.

Trousers – IXS Raven – 267 $. Pretty good motorbike trousers with protection of knees and even ankles. Also there is a special heater for spring/autumn. There is a lightning for connection with a jacket, which is somehow like overalls.

Boots – Sidi Vertigo – 296 $. Very pleasant and convenient motorbike leather boots with the maximal protection for feet. Good ventilation and couple of additional features make the boots nice addition to motorbike leathers.

Gloves – AlpenStars GP Pro – 221 $. Leather gloves with carbon protection and presence of ventilation. Excellent!

I had an accident wearing all the leathers mention above. And I’d like to admit, that they executed their protective function for 100%. I hadn’t any trauma, so I was quite happy about purchasing the equipment. Beginning from that moment I haven’t even thought about saving money when buying motorbike leathers!”

Frankly speaking, I completely agree with my Russian friend and highly recommend you to purchase only high-quality and protective motorbike leathers, because they are the thing you safety depends on during riding a motorbike!
